  • 150g of dried wheat flour noodles
  • 300g of boneless skinless chicken breasts, sliced properly
  • 2 tbsp of soya sauce
  • 1 tbsp of five-spice powder
  • 1 tsp of chilli chicken
  • 1 tbsp of corn flour
  • 1 tbsp of groundnut oil
  • 1 red pepper, seedless
  • 1 onion, sliced perfectly
  • freshly ground black pepper for taste

How to make chicken chowmein

  1. At first, boil the dried noodles in a pan for 5 or 6 minutes until it softens properly. Once it is done boiling, drain and rinse the noodles under running water and drain again. If you do not want the noodles to stick to each other, just add a drop of sesame oil to it. 

  2. Now, it is the turn of the chicken strips. Put it in a pan and pour a dash of light soya sauce to give it a colour. Add five-spice powder later and chilli sauce if you want it spicier. Once it is done, add a dash of corn flour to make the chicken strips dusty.

  3. Take another fresh pan for the next step and heat it until smoke spirals can be seen. Add the groundnut oil afterwards and toss the chicken strips in it. Fry it until it takes the colour of gold and gets enough crispier to go well with the chowmein.

  4. Add the red pepper as the next step rises, and stir it for good one minute. After that add the onions and any other veggies that you want to add in your chicken chowmein and stir it for 30 or 50 seconds until it gets a crunchy texture. Now add the noodles to it and keep stirring it until it mixes well with the veggies and the chicken strips. You can stir the whole mixture for good 3 or 4 minutes until you are done the cooking.


Along with the preparation, the cooking time of a chicken chowmein is roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour.


  1. It is better to toss the freshly boiled noodles in sesame oil if you do not want to have extra sticky noodles.
  2. The veggies section is not strict at all. You can add as many as veggies you want.
