  • 1 cup grated onions
  • 1 ½ cup three largely chopped tomatoes
  • Salt
  • 10-12 cashews
  • ¾ tsp garam masala powder
  • ¾ tsp Kashmiri red chili powder
  • 1 ½ tbsp. butter
  • 3 green cardamom
  • 2-3 cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 ½ tsp ginger garlic paste
  • ½ tsp kasoori methi
  • 3 tbsp cream
  • Chopped coriander to garnish

Step By Step Instructions for Cooking Butter Chicken masala


  1. Marinate the chicken overnight.

  2. Heat the pan adding 1 tbsp of butter, fry the onions until the smell goes away

  3. Sauté the tomatoes adding other spices like garam masala, coriander, and cashews until the raw smell goes out.

Making the butter masala

  1. Heat the pan with butter and add cloves, bay leaves, and cardamom

  2. Add ginger garlic paste and stir until fried properly.

  3. Add the marinated chicken with the masala and cook in medium heat.

  4. Add the tomato paste, red chili powder, and masala powder and cook until the gravy attains some consistency.

  5. Add kasuri methi, fresh cream, and cashew and cook until the chicken becomes tender.

  6. Garnish it with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
